Day 188 Mile 188: UFO. On 7th of July 1947 the news of the Roswell Incident started to break. Famously this is believed to be the crash of an alien space ship, or alternatively a weather balloon and is the basis of thousands of conspiracy theories and films. Either way it’s pretty cool, and I can find a link to a running route without breaking into Area 51.
In a compiled listing of unexplained UFO sightings in the UK the Great Orme in Llandudno comes up as the third most likely place to witness a close encounter of the space kind; it was only beaten by Bonnybridge in Lanarkshire, Scotland, followed by Cley Hill in Wiltshire, both of which are far to far away to go on such a silly whim!
As a result I got up early before work and rode my bike over to the foot of the limestone massif that forms the Gt. Orme and got out in the waking summer morning. The tide is low, as is the cloud, and the majority of the sound comes from the young seagulls perched in their cliff-side nests demanding breakfast. The air pressure also feels lower than the last few days which gives the morning a slightly fresher feel, which assists with running up the slope of Marine Drive, to where the road flattens out at the first ‘corner’ of headland. The fact that post-camping I had slept properly in my own bed for the first time in a week last night, combined with a Chicken Tikka Dopiaza (with pilau rice, naan and pint) for last night’s dinner; meant that the return run back down the hill was also carried out in what I can only describe as a rapid fashion!
I’m running a mile each day everyday for 2017. If you feel you can sponsor me please do, as all the money raised will go to the Cleft Lip & Palate Association (CLAPA) who provide services all across the UK to support people affected by it.
