Day 90 mile 90: 90° Square. Wow it’s day 90 already, almost 1/4 of the way through the year! I thought that finding a route for today would be really easy, after all there must be loads of roads that intersect at 90°? Well yes, but not in North Wales, where land use seems to be defined largely by rivers, hills, and other items cast about in the Pleistocene era, which are just easier to go around rather than through!
After a little head scratching (and drawing the line at going to either Milton Keynes or New York for the day) I realized that there is an industrial estate which I pass on my way to work, where the land had been scraped free of impedance by a combination of the last ice age and the linear mindset of c21st commerce. Thus we have something close to a square, four sets of 90° for day 90. Result!
Running through a deserted industrial estate, just as the people who are supposed to be there are beginning to arrive, feels refreshingly naughty in a slightly dystopian way. It is all high-wired fences, locked down skips, and signs proudly proclaiming the names of security firms; against a backdrop of faded paint and car headlights pixilated through the ensuing raindrops.
Fortunately I didn’t get told off and on a plus side it turns out that running in ‘civilisation’ means a greater chance of finding a tea van 🙂
That’s three months done! Thanks as ever for all the support, it is amazing!
I’m running a mile each day everyday for 2017. If you feel you can sponsor me please do, as all the money raised will go to the Cleft Lip & Palate Association (CLAPA) who provide services all across the UK to support people affected by it.
