Day 17 mile 17: Castle, woods and lobster-pots

There is something amazingly evocative about Conwy quay. If you can try to ignore the hum of the traffic coming across the estuary and neglect to notice the electric lights; the place seems almost timeless. Tonight’s run has been a torchlit whirl of castle turrets, sea gnarled tree branches, and upturned hulls peering from behind stone walls. Even in the split-seconds when I could close my eyes against the light in the darkness, the piping of the oystercatchers mixed with the heady smells of low tide and drying lobster-pots still got through into conciseness.

On a clear night this would be an among experience but under tonight’s shroud of mist it stepped up a level in the pantheon of atmospheres. Astounding 🙂
